Its the difference between true emotion and and mere sappy sentimentality and bombast. OK, so Kelley sang it first, but neither wrote the song, melody or lyrics, so I don't see how either can be the "original" artist. Of course its an opinion thing, but a more? sophisticated opinion will tend to favor Knopfler's arrangement, I think.
